Report: Using narrative CVs: process optimization and bias mitigation, DORA/FORGEN CoP workshop
The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) funder’s group and Funding Organisations for Gender Equality Community of Practice (FORGEN CoP) partnered to organise a workshop focused on optimising the use of narrative CVs, which is an emerging method used by research funders to widen the research outputs that can be recognised in research assessment. The workshop, Using Narrative CVs: process optimization and bias mitigation, facilitated by Dr Claartje Vinkenburg, was convened as two events to enable global attendance. More than 120 participants from over 40 funding organisations and 22 countries joined us to explore strategies to mitigate potential biases of narrative CVs and monitor their effectiveness in the grant funding process. Report: Sex and gender dimension workshop with Prof Londa Schiebinger
Inclusion of the sex and gender dimension in research and innovation improves the quality and relevance of funded research and innovation projects. With Horizon Europe, the EU Commission increses its commitment to incorperating the sex and gender dimension in research and innovation, requiring it by default and evaluating it under the excellence criterion unless indicated otherwise.
The report summarises the outputs from a workshop organised by the Funding Organisations for Gender Equality (FORGEN) Community of Practice (CoP) working group on the "Sex and gender dimension in the research and innovation funding process". Initially, the working group leaders conducted a survey among the FORGEN CoP members regarding their implementation of the sex and gender dimensions throughout the research and innovation funding process. The survey was presented and elaborated upon, and a workshop was held in September 2021 with the FORGEN CoP R&IFO members and Professor Londa Schiebinger of Standford University, a world-reknown expert in this area. The workshop was centred around the FORGEN CoP survey and a global review performed by Gendered Innovations and Wellcome to evaluate policies on sex, gender, and/or diversity analysis in research design. Guide to gender equality for research & innovation funding agencies: data collection and impact monitoring
The Gender Equality Data Working Group has developed a Guide to gender equality for research & innovation funding agencies: data collection and impact monitoring.
As part of its committment to making gender equality a reality, from 2022, the European Commission will require that a Gender Equality Plan (GEP) is in place for individual organisations applying to Horizon Europe for funding. Considering the unique position of, and the lack of specific guidance for Research and Innovation Funding Organisations, this guide aims to support the establishment and monitoring of GEPs and the monitoring of their effect on external-facing stakeholders within the activities within the R&IFOs. This guide is designed specifically for R&IFOs to support them in collecting gender-related data, and provides practical information for R&IFOs regarding rationale for, special considerations and specific areas of inclusion in data collection practices. By following a consistent approach to data collection across international funding agencies, informed by European legislation and identified good practice, R&IFOs will be supported in assessing progress against gender equality targets and performing benchmarking practices, allowing them to identify areas that require further action.
